Let’s Try This Again

Hello again,

I’m sure there are very few of you that read my initial blog post back in 2022. I’ve since taken it down as a way to give myself a fresh start with this project. I’ve been struggling with committing to my creative outlets for a while now and a post talking about starting something new from 2022 is something that I don’t want to keep around as this new found enthusiasm is being brought forward into 2025.

When I started this project I cared way too much about having every single detail figured out. How was everything going to look? How was the back end of the site going to function? How should I build out the social media side of things to help grow readership? What fun things can I add to the site that would make for a unique experience for a reader in an age where short-form video and destroyed attention spans int he norm? All of these questions were good to keep in mind as the project grew but became a distraction from the main goal: writing & getting thoughts out there.

Book cover for the award winning novel Atomic Habits by James Clear I rounded out 2024 with reading the very acclaimed novel Atomic Habits by James Clear. I’m not going to gush over that book here, since you can read plenty of reviews detailing how it changed peoples lives, helped get their mind right, etc. But one of they key takeaways for me was actively doing the exercises to work towards the type of person you want to be. I’ve always wanted to be a person who worked in a digital environment but utilized the creative portion of my brain. In high-school, that was occupied with Choir & theater, with some bass playing. In College, it was primarily in playing bass guitar in and out of various bands. In my post-college life there has been very little in the way of creative outlets. In spite my other commitments as a father, husband, and working professional I’ve been wanting to fill the void that was left from no longer pursuing creative endeavors, even in a casual capacity.

“It is easy to get bogged down trying to find the optimal plan for change: the fastest way to lose weight, the best program to build muscle, the perfect idea for a side hustle. We are so focused on figuring out the best approach that we never get around to taking action. As Voltaire once wrote, ‘The best is the enemy of the good.'”

– James Clear

I know this probably comes off as a therapy session or as someone screaming into the void for no one to hear, but I wanted to get these thoughts out there to keep myself accountable for doing these exercises. Also, as the site name implies, Rambling is kinda something I do, and rambling about a new found desire to fill a creative void in the new year felt appropriate.

P.S. – I’m also trying to read more in 2025, so if you want to see what I’m currently reading, you can follow me on Goodreads.
